                     THE DOTY SCHOOL FOOD PROGRAM

Welcome back to another year of great food at school!  Breakfast and lunch are served every day.
We offer a wide variety of carefully prepared fresh foods popular with most children.  We are happy
to be participating again in the Farm-to-Table Program, offered by Food Works, that arranges for us
to receive locally grown, mostly organic, produce to be used in our meals.  And, again this year, we
will be serving local organic ground beef from Tangletown Farms in MiddlesexThanks to all of you
who support  the fundraising events throughout the year that finance our local food.   All meals are
planned according to the nutrition requirements set by the State of Vermont to be sure that students
are offered the nourishment they need for their school day.  We will be using sunbutter, a tasty peanut
butter alternative made from sunflower seeds, to help create a nut-safe environment for a student with
serious allergies.

Menus
Our first day lunch will be the traditional Pizza, Vegetable Sticks with Dip, Milk and a Cookie.
Breakfast will be the usual (see below). The first menu will come home with your child on the first
day of school.  The order form should be filled out and returned promptly with payment.
Menus will come home every other Thursday for the menu period beginning the following week.
Meals should be ordered and paid for by Monday.   If your child has any food allergies or special
dietary needs, please notify me.  Menus are subject to change.

We encourage everyone who thinks they may be eligible to apply.  This program is not only helpful to families
but also supports our school’s Food Program as well as other funding.  These forms should be completed and
returned to the principal as soon as possible.  They will be kept confidential.  You will be notified promptly of your eligibility.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Only one application per family is needed and it applies to both breakfast and lunch.  If you were eligible for free or
reduced price meals last year, you must fill out a new application for this year; however, all of your children currently
enrolled at Doty are automatically eligible for the first 30 days of this new school year.  You will need to submit a new
application by September 30th.   If you have any questions or need help filling out the application, please contact
David Hartnett or me. For an application, click here.

Money Collection

Money will be collected in the classroom first thing in the morning or the envelope may be left in the basket on the
secretary’s desk in the main office. Please return order forms and payment in an envelope clearly marked with your
child(ren)’s name(s).  Once again no money will be accepted in the breakfast or lunch linesAll meals must be
paid for in advance.
You may choose to pay by two-week menu period,   or simply pay any desired amount to your
child’s account that will then be deducted from as used.  Meals, especially lunch, should be ordered in advance for
preparation purposes.

We have a computer software system in place for keeping student accounts.  Each family should keep enough money
in their account for all the meals and milks their children will be having (breakfast, lunch, snack and lunch milks) for
the two-week menu period or more.  If you are unsure which days your child might have breakfast, you may choose to
keep an estimated amount in your account for that purpose.  You may call me to check the status of your account at any time.

Credit Policy

We do expect families to keep a positive balance in their meal accounts.  Students may charge a meal if necessary but are
expected to bring in payment as soon as possible.  No snack milks can be charged.  Balance due notices will be sent home
on Fridays, payment is expected on Monday.

Students who miss a meal for which they have paid will receive a credit to their account.

Parents are welcome to join us for meals.  The cost of lunch for an adult is $3.00, breakfast is $1.75.  A call in advance for
lunch is helpful for preparation purposes.  If you have any questions about any aspect of our food program or are interested
in volunteering, please contact me at school – 223-5656, ext. 143.
